  "I don't understand." It was a simple statement, "I don't understand why you stopped talking to me. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to see me again. And I don't understand how I woke up in your room this morning."

  Kyle took a deep breath and, for a minute, I thought he was going to give up and walk away but instead he sat down on one of the little garden benches and motioned for me to come sit with him.

  "I guess we have to start over." Kyle leaned back against the bench with a hint of humor in his voice, "I never knew you grew up to be a functioning blackout drunk." He chided with a light push to my shoulder.

  "I guess you should have stuck around to see my college years, then." I muttered glumly. I wasn't convinced we were really friends just yet, despite the missing memories of the night before-- and the growing warmth in my pussy.

  "So what happened, Kyle? Did you get a girlfriend?"

  "No. I mean, eventually, yes, but that's not what happened. I-- uh-- Denise," he turned sideways on the bench to face me, "I really liked you. I wanted to, you know, be with you and stuff."

  I looked up at him, a little surprised, "OK, so why didn't you say so?"

  "Well, you know, I was kinda young and stupid still." He gave me one of those charming grins and I almost forgot that I was determined to be mad at him at least a little while longer.

  "You were never stupid." I reminded him.

  "Oh yeah. Yeah I was!" He nodded emphatically, "Maybe not academically, but when it comes to you I've always been a total idiot."

  "I didn't know what Dad would say, how would Tammy feel if her big brother started dating her new big sister? Tammy was still in high school, what would the kids have said to her? How bad could something like that fuck up her world? Or yours?"

  "Kyle, I was over 18, I went to college in a totally different state than the rest of the family even lived in. I don't think it would have been that big a deal to me. I mean, it's really sweet of you to worry about Tammy, but no one would have known unless she told them."

  "And what about your mom? You think she would have been OK with it?"

  I had to admit, I wasn't sure how Mom would have taken it. Mom's always been pretty open minded and I was over 18 and out on my own by that time, I think she'd have gotten over it and I told Kyle just that. "Fine, I get it. But you could have at least talked to me about it in stead of just disappearing. You think all those excuses to miss out on family holidays and stuff didn't hurt any feelings?"

  "Well, I'm back now, Dee. And I don't care if you don't remember all the stuff you told me last night, I'm still holding you to it. Because I believe you meant it."

  I started to protest, to insist that that wasn't fair, but his lips were against mine again, his hand firmly against the back of my neck, pulling me into him. And I couldn't protest against that.

  There was still so much left to our conversation but I'd already been regretting breaking off the first kiss. I let his hand pull me toward him. I let his lips press firmly against mine. I let his tongue part my lips and slide inside my mouth.

  His kiss was firm and hungry. It was also familiar. I definitely remembered this. I remembered the feeling of his breath against my cheek and the way I fought to control my heartbeat as my entire body opened up to him.

  Kyle's hand moved down my back, taking the zipper of my dress with it as it continued toward my ass.

  "Umm," I wasn't sure how to ask, "Did we...does that mean we....?" I couldn't bring myself to ask so bluntly so I just let the question hang in the heat of the night air.

  Kyle turned his head up to face me. At first he looked confused by my half asked question but then I saw realization dawn in his eyes. A smile spread across his face, crinkling the corners of his eyes and he began to laugh.

  "Oh! No." He laughed and shook his head, stopping occasionally to kiss me, "Oh good heavens no. Dee, I barely got you to agree to date me! I wasn't going to push my luck!"

  I laughed with him, but I looked at my ring finger, perplexed, "Then what...?"

  "It's our grandmother's ring. Tammy wanted you to have it." He held my finger gently and move the ring slightly so it shone in the dim light, "I've had it in the safe for years. I was going to give it to Tammy but she said I should give it to you, you know, kind of to let you know how much you mean to her as a sister."

  I stared at the ring. Kyle's story meant a lot to me, Tammy meant a lot to me, "Aren't you still worried about how the family is going to feel if we start seeing each other?"

  Kyle looked down at our hands where our fingers laced around each other, the ring glinting on my finger. He gave my fingers a little squeeze, "Tammy's a grown woman now, Dee, she's married and getting ready to start her own family. You and I are adults now. I think the family will learn to deal with it. They want us to be happy."

  "We still have a lot to talk about, you know." I frowned a little as I acknowledged the issues we still had to work through.

  "And a lot of lost time to make up for." Kyle ran his fingers down my spine where my dress remained unzipped and then pulled my head down to his for a long, tender kiss that promised to be true to his words.

  The kiss turned deeper and the hunger crept back into it as his hands moved under the hem of my dress where it hung around my waist still.

  Suddenly the sound of a woman's shrill giggle cut through our private garden. Kyle and I both jumped to our feet in a rush of zipping, buttoning and smoothing, expecting an aunt or a cousin to round the corner at any moment.

  We had barely managed to return ourselves to a state that wouldn't get us arrested when a young couple rounded the curve in the pathway. The man's mouth clamped to the back of the woman's neck, his hand under her blouse as she giggled and groped his crotch.

  Her shriek of surprise catching him off guard as she noticed us standing in their pathway, her suitor stumbling, causing him to trip before catching himself and realizing why she'd stopped suddenly.

  "Um, uh, sorry," I couldn't tell if the young man was apologizing to me and Kyle or to his lady friend for tripping over her. They smirked shyly at us as they noticed our own state of disarray.

  "No problem," Kyle assured the man, "We were just headed back to the room."

  Kyle wrapped his arm around my shoulder and steered me back toward the hotel room, "You haven't been drinking tonight, have you?" He teased me in the elevator as he nuzzled my ear with his nose.

  "Not a drop." I promised.

  "Good." He ran his hand under my skirt and reminded me that my panties were nothing but a lacy belt now, "And this time, I'll wait till you wake up before I go for breakfast."

I managed to choke out my final thought on the matter, "I can't believe you hate me so much that you would make up something so horrible just to get revenge. I had no idea I screwed up your life so bad."

  Erik winced with every insult I hurled at him as though I was throwing tiny daggers into his flesh. When I finally broke down into tears and couldn't put any more words together I stared at him through the tears while I tried to catch my breath. I saw his expression soften and then he stood up and faced me. He worked his jaw a few times as though he were going to say something in reply but then he just closed his mouth and frowned at me.

  I sensed that I had genuinely hurt him. Part of me wanted to take it all back. I hated to see the pain in his eyes as he looked at me now. Deep down, I knew he wasn't lying about Richard. If I'd had any doubts about his sincerity they were washed away now by the look in his eyes that told me he had only told me because he loved me and didn't want to see me hurt. But another part of me was angry at him for all the reasons I'd just told him.

  I just wanted him to leave. To go back to his new life and let me go on with mine. It was too hard having him here.

  Erik closed the distance between us in 2 long strides. One more step and he'd managed to push me up against the wall behind me. There was suddenly no space between us at all. He pinned me against the wall with the length of his body pressing against mine, his hands planted firmly on either side of my head as his mouth descended onto mine.
